Sanctuary Wood 102 years ago

Today marks the 102nd Anniversary of the Battle of Sanctuary Wood. In this battle, the Canadian Military made history. This was the first time ever that a Canadian Military unit engaged in an offensive action. Their efforts were victorious.

Today also marks the death in battle of Pte. Farquhar McLennan, 58th Battalion, CEF.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember.

  1. Victory? 3,750 casualties for the 3rd Division during 2-4 June. That’s nearly 20 casualties for every yard they took back. Victory is hard to measure when there are so few left to celebrate.

  2. It is still June 13th and 102 years ago. Weird coincidence- a few minutes ago I read page #323 and the death of Pre. F. McLennan at the Battle of Sanctuary Wood. Excellent book. Patricia
